CONTEXT & PROBLEM

Bridging the Gap in Homeschool Music Education

Homeschool families face significant challenges in providing quality music education. Traditional music programs require expensive in-person instruction, and existing online platforms often lack comprehensive curriculum alignment with national standards. Parents need a solution that is both pedagogically sound and practical to implement at home.

The Challenge: How do we create an accessible, comprehensive music education program that meets national standards while being flexible enough for diverse homeschool environments and student needs—from complete beginners to advanced musicians?

KEY PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

Understanding User Pain Points

  • Lack of structured, standards-aligned music curriculum for homeschool families
  • High cost and scheduling constraints of traditional private lessons
  • Limited access to ensemble and group performance opportunities
  • Parents with no musical background struggle to teach music effectively
  • Existing online platforms focus on single instruments, not comprehensive musicianship
  • Need for flexible pacing to accommodate different learning speeds and family schedules
MY ROLE & APPROACH

Founder, Designer, & Curriculum Developer

Vision & Strategy: Defined the product vision, business model, and go-to-market strategy based on my two decades of experience as both a professional musician (Grammy-nominated credits with The Killers) and music educator.

Curriculum Architecture: Designed comprehensive K-12 curriculum spanning 36 weeks, aligned with National Core Arts Standards, incorporating music theory, history, performance, and technology across all grade levels.

UX/UI Design: Created intuitive platform interfaces for both parents and students, focusing on accessibility, clear navigation, and engaging visual design that appeals to young learners while remaining professional.

User Research: Conducted interviews with homeschool families, analyzed pain points in existing music education solutions, and iteratively refined the curriculum and platform based on real-world feedback.
